This charter early elementary classroom consists of a maximum 20 students and two certified teachers. This classroom was a natural progression from our TK/K class last year. We are building a family of students whose parents see the benefit of individualized attention in a combined Montessori/traditional environment. We meet traditional goals through an unconventional approach by implementing Montessori philosophies and utilizing Montessori materials to reinforce traditional lessons. The K-2 Language Arts curriculum includes the Balanced Literacy reading program and Lucy Calkins writing program. Our combined philosophies allow teachers to differentiate instruction to enhance academic performance.
Our students will benefit from a small class size, which enables teachers to get to know them, their strengths and areas of opportunity. Children have freedom of choice and movement within limits and we meet them where they are in their development. Since our teachers know their students and empower them to master concepts in ways in which they are naturally inclined, our students excel. Since this is such a small, close-knit class, the application process is more elaborate than it is for our pre-primary and primary programs. If you are seeking a private lower elementary experience for your child, please contact us to schedule a parent conference (with both parents present), a student assessment, and a classroom trial.
